SRM adds two roles to the Civio Engage role model: **Stakeholder Manager** and **Stakeholder Viewer**. They sit alongside the existing roles and decide what a user can do inside SRM.

*Records* here means stakeholders, organisations, groups, initiatives, interactions, issues, tasks and notes.

A Stakeholder Viewer sees custom field values on the records they can read, but cannot open the SRM settings pages and sees no bulk action bar. It is the role for oversight without write access.

Administrator access
--------------------

Administrators inherit full SRM permissions. An Administrator sees and can edit everything in SRM across all teams. A Team Lead is scoped to the records their team owns.

Granting a role site-wide or on one team
----------------------------------------

Either SRM role can be granted across the whole site or on a single team. A Stakeholder Manager granted system-wide can edit every team's SRM data; granted on one team, they can edit only that team's records.

Roles decide what a user can do. Teams decide which records they can do it to. See [Teams in SRM](/articles/teams-in-srm), and [Understanding and Managing Teams](/articles/11792463455375-Understanding-and-Managing-Teams) for the wider team model.

Assigning an SRM role
---------------------

1. Open the user record from the **Users** section, or from a team's **Members** tab to assign the role at team level.
2. Under **System roles**, tick **Stakeholder Manager** or **Stakeholder Viewer**.
3. Save the user.
