Civio Engage's magic code authentication provides a streamlined way for users to participate in community engagement activities like following projects, RSVPing to events or submitting a survey that only signed-in people can complete, without having to create an account first.

This feature uses a simple email verification process that removes barriers to participation while maintaining security and user verification.

### How Magic Code Authentication Works

When you try to follow a project, RSVP to an event, or submit a survey restricted to signed-in participants without being logged in, you'll be prompted to verify your email with a magic code instead of going through a traditional registration process:

1. Enter your email address
2. Receive a confirmation code to your email
3. Enter the code on the website
4. Complete your desired action (following, RSVPing or submitting the survey)

#### What is a Magic Code?

A magic code is a secure, one-time verification code sent to your email that allows quick authentication without needing to remember a password. The code is valid for 10 minutes.

### First-Time Users

If you're new to Civio Engage, the system will automatically create an account for you after verifying your email. You'll then:

1. Receive a welcome email with a link to set your password
2. Get a notification on the platform prompting you to complete your account setup
3. Have the option to set your password now or later

Setting a password is optional but recommended as it allows for easier login in the future. Your account is already created and verified through the magic code process.

### Returning Users

If you already have an account with Civio Engage:

1. Enter your email address
2. Receive and enter the confirmation code
3. You'll be logged in and can complete your action immediately

#### Users with Two-Factor Authentication

If your account has two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, you can still request and enter a magic code, but it will not log you in. The system will then ask you to use the standard login form instead, where you can sign in with your password and 2FA code.
