**Keep your community in the loop and let them know how a project is progressing.**

Closing the feedback loop is an easy way to build a dialogue with citizens, and keep them engaged for longer.

Top tips for closing the feedback loop
--------------------------------------

- Be upfront about why you are collecting public feedback.
- Explain how feedback will shape the decision-making process.
- Ensure the public has a clear understanding of the project timeline.
- Keep the public informed about the project with updates and newsletters.
- When the project is complete, ask for follow up feedback.
- Use this feedback to inform the next phase of the project.

Timeline
--------

The **Timeline** helps you to manage community expectations at each stage of the project by providing an outline of progress.

Updates
-------

Use the **Update** tool to share new information about the project with the community. Add image galleries, news, maps, and participation tools to an Update by using content blocks.

You can also use Updates to share the results of survey feedback, and let users know how their input has shaped the decision-making process.

Notifications
-------------

Notifications keep everyone informed about what's happening on the platform.

- Public users who follow projects will receive email notifications when an update is posted to the project.
- Public users who follow a category (ie: a region or a tag) will receive notifications when there is new activity in that category, such as a new project.
- Users can check their Notifications when they log into the platform and go to their User Profile.

By using Timelines, Updates and Notifications, you can:

- keep the public informed
- demonstrate how their feedback is informing progress
- demonstrate timeliness
- keep them engaged throughout the project
- seek their feedback after the project is completed
- use this feedback to inform the next iteration.
